Part 2: The Key to Spiritual and Physical Resilience
Prophet David’s Fast (Puasa Nabi Daud) is one of the unique acts of worship recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is described as the fast most beloved to Allah (SWT).
Monday and Thursday fasting is easier for the general Muslim population. It is not too demanding yet still brings one closer to Allah.
However, Prophet David’s Fast is more suitable for those with strong physical endurance and high discipline. It represents the highest level of commitment in fasting.
Prophet David (AS) fasted on alternate days—one day of fasting followed by a day of eating. This practice symbolizes extraordinary discipline and commitment in drawing closer to Allah (SWT). More than just refraining from food and drink, this fast serves as comprehensive spiritual, mental, and physical training.
Dajjal is the ultimate test of both physical and mental endurance. To withstand a high-level trial, one must prepare with a high-level strategy.
The Meaning and Wisdom of Prophet David’s Fast
Prophet David’s Fast is not merely a physical act of worship, but a manifestation of sincerity and submission at the highest level to Allah (SWT).
Hadith on Prophet David’s Fast
From Abdullah bin Amr bin al-‘As, the Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The most beloved fast to Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla is the fast of Prophet David (AS). He fasted one day and did not fast the next. The most beloved prayer to Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla is the prayer of Prophet David (AS). He would sleep for half the night, wake up for a third of it, and then sleep for a sixth.”
(Narrated by Al-Nasa’i, 2344)
This alternate-day fasting is an ultimate test of faith and patience. It nurtures consistency, as steadfastness in worship is a significant challenge.

Inspiration from Prophet David (AS)
Prophet David (AS) was a grateful servant who dedicated every moment of his life to worshiping Allah. His alternate-day fasting was a reflection of his gratitude, serving as a model for us to appreciate the blessings Allah (SWT) has granted.
We, the people of the Nusantara, reside in the land of the End Times revival—a land once visited by Prophet David (AS). A significant portion of us are descendants of the lost 9 tribes of Bani Israel, who have assimilated over time.
By fasting like Prophet David, we follow in the footsteps of our ancestors—Prophet David (AS) and Prophet Solomon (AS).
Conclusion
Are we prepared to practice the fast most beloved by Allah?
For our survival and protection, especially if we migrate and fight alongside Imam Mahdi against Dajjal’s deception, it is wise to prepare ourselves by adopting Prophet David’s Fast.
With determination and sincerity, Prophet David’s Fast can be a path toward Allah’s pleasure, bringing us closer to Maqam Mahmuda (the highest spiritual rank), and granting strength to face the trials of both this world and the Hereafter.
